Tsering was born Carmen Eraña in the Basque country of northern Spain. The third of four children, her parents encouraged her to study commerce so that in the future she could lend a hand with the family business.

To round out her education Carmen went to England in the 1970s and spent two years studying English. She then worked in import-export for several years, but Carmen’s Latin temperament and longing for adventure led her to Mexico where she lived for six years, immersing herself in Mexican culture.

In the late 1980s Carmen returned to Europe and eventually discovered Buddhism. She moved to France and spent three years studying Buddhism at Dhagpo Kagyu Ling in Dordogne, where she received the ordination name Tsering Dreulma, which means ‘Liberator of Longevity’. Tsering then moved to Dhagpo Kundreul Ling in Auvergne, France where she accomplished two 3-year retreat cycles.

After retreat, Tsering returned to Dhagpo Kagyu Ling where she lived for another three years. Her main activity was organizing the reception of the high lamas and teachers who came to Dhagpo; she also taught Buddhist meditation in some of the sister centers in Spain.

Tsering has returned to her home in Spain where she teaches the Dharma and studies the Tibetan language. She is fluent in Spanish, Basque, English and French.
