Trinlay Tulku Rinpoche
Trinlay Tulku Rinpoche was born in Switzerland to a father who was a member of the French Parliament and an American mother. At thirteen months old, he was recognized by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and the Venerable Kalu Rinpoche, two of the 20th century's most prominent and dynamic Tibetan masters, as the manifestation and successor (tulku) of a realized Buddhist teacher. At the age of three, Trinlay Rinpoche and his family moved to Darjeeling where he began traditional tulku training under Kalu Rinpoche's care and guidance. Over the next several years Trinlay Tulku accompanied Kalu Rinpoche as he taught throughout the world.
When Trinlay Tulku was 10, Kalu Rinpoche entrusted his training to Lama Teunsang, head lama of the Buddhist hermitage Karma Migyur Ling in the French Alps. From age 17 on, he pursued higher Buddhist studies in philosophy and epistemology in India under Topga Rinpoche and Khenpo Chodrag Tenphel, in addition to Western academic studies at the Sorbonne, the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes and the French Institute of Oriental Languages among others. Today Trinlay Tulku Rinpoche's home base is in Paris where he continues to focus on his academic research.
Trinlay Rinpoche has received various transmissions and essential instructions in Buddhist philosophy and meditation from many highly qualified masters. He speaks Tibetan, English and French with equal ease. Each year he travels to many places throughout Europe, Asia and the US to teach the Dharma. A history buff and pan-cultural scholar, Trinlay Tulku Rinpoche often bases his teachings on classic Buddhist texts such as 8th century master Shantideva's well-loved, A Bodhisattva's Way of Life, presenting the timeless wisdom of these treasures in a way which transcends cultural and philosophical distinctions.
