Drala Adventures are led by a team of remarkable and highly accomplished Tibetan Buddhist wisdom masters and Western teachers known as rinpoches, khenpos and lamas. Drala’s spiritual guides create a warm and caring environment conducive for genuine personal growth. Treasured and enduring friendships often result from the connections made between Drala’s travelers and spiritual guides.
Rinpoche is an honorific title that literally means ‘precious one’ and is generally reserved for tulkus (incarnate lamas) and those recognized by the proper authorities within a lineage as superior dharma masters. It is used as both a term of address and as the last element of the name.
Khenpo, literally meaning ‘learned one’, is roughly equivalent to a doctorate degree in the West and is awarded usually after a period of 9 to 15 years of intensive Buddhist study. It is used as the name of the degree, a term of address and the first element of the name.
Lama is an honorific title for experienced and learned Buddhist teachers. It is often bestowed on those who have completed a traditional 3-year meditation retreat.
